Caption: Light micrograph of an aluminium bronze alloy, made by the addition of 11. 8 percent aluminium to copper. This substance has strength, good working properties, resistance to corrosion, & retains some of the colour of copper to produce a rich golden alloy. The structure in the micrograph consists of a fine pearlitic eutectoid which has coloured green, orange & purple. A grain boundary runs vertically to the right of centre & is delineated by the black globules of impurity oxides. (Nomarksi illumination, polished section, ferric chloride etch). Magnification: x15 at 35mm size, x35 at 6x9cm size. Ref: MICROCOSMOS, fig. 7.39, page 145
