Infectious bronchitis virus (IBV) particles, coloured transmission electron micrograph (TEM). This virus is a member of the coronavirus family. Coronaviruses are named after the corona (crown) of surface proteins (red dots) that are used to penetrate a host cell. IBV only occurs in chickens, but causes great economic loss by damaging their respiratory, renal and reproductive systems.
