Caption: Ruth May Tunnicliff (1876-1946), US bacteriologist. Tunnicliff studied at Vassar Collage (graduating in 1896), and then qualified as a medical doctor at Rush Medical College (1903). She conducted research on bacteriology and immunology at John McCormick Memorial Institute for Infectious Diseases in Chicago during the 1920s.
