Caption: Ariane 5 nose cone production. Engineers inspecting sections that will form the Ariane 5 rocket nose cone. The nose cone, also known as the payload fairing, will house the payload during lift off. It is constructed from a layer of aluminium perforated into a honeycomb pattern (above) and a layer of carbon fibre resin. The resulting nose cone is very strong and flexible. Photographed at Contraves Space, Switzerland.
