Caption: Osteoarthritis of the shoulder. Coloured axial magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) scan through the right shoulder of a 67-year-old man with glenohumeral osteoarthritis. The scan shows irregularity of the subchondral bone of the humeral head, wear and thinning of the glenoid, and posterior subluxation of the humeral head. Osteoarthritis is a joint disease aggravated by mechanical stress. Symptoms include joint pain, stiffness and swelling. This is a T1-weighted MRI scan.
