Caption: Byrd Glacier. Satellite image of the Byrd Glacier (centre) on the Antarctic coast as it travels through a 24 kilometre-wide valley in the Transatlantic Mountains (centre right and centre left). The deep ridges in this fast-flowing glacier run parallel to the direction of its flow. Image taken by the Enhanced Thermatic Mapper Plus (ETM+), a multispectral sensor on the Landsat 7 satellite on 24 December 1999.
