Caption: Glioblastoma. Axial computed tomography (CT) scan through the brain of a 52-year-old man with a glioblastoma (lower right) in the left temporal lobe. Glioblastoma is the most common malignant primary brain tumour. Symptoms depend on the region of the brain affected, and include seizures, headaches, and memory and personality changes due to the growth of the cancer. Glioblastoma is particularly malignant. It arises from the supporting glial cells in the brain. Treatment is with a combination of surgery and radiotherapy, but the prognosis is poor. Death can occur within months.
