The glioblastoma is at upper right in both scans. Glioblastoma is the most common malignant primary brain tumour. Symptoms depend on the region of the brain affected, and include seizures, headaches, and memory and personality changes. Glioblastoma is particularly malignant. It arises from the supporting glial cells in the brain. Treatment is with a combination of surgery and radiotherapy, but the prognosis is poor. Death can occur within months. Diffusion tensor imaging measures the direction of water diffusion, which in the brain reveals the orientation of nerve fibres. The technique is also known as tractography (tract density imaging), with the resulting image known as a tractogram.
