Kidney cancer. Light micrograph of a section through tissue from a kidney affected by tubulo-papillary renal cell carcinoma. Renal cell carcinoma (RCC) originates in the lining of the proximal convoluted tubule, the very small tubes in the kidney that transport GF (glomerular filtrate) from the glomerulus to the descending limb of the nephron. It is the most common type of kidney cancer in adults. This sample has been prepared using the Masson trichrome stain. Magnification: x1120 when printed at 10 centimetres wide.
