Caption: Xanthelasma cells. Light micrograph of a section through tissue from the skin, showing cells of a xanthelasma growth. This specimen includes clumps of foam cells with a clear and vacuolated cytoplasm. Xanthelasma is a fatty deposit commonly found on the skin of elderly people. If the growth becomes excessively large it can be surgically removed. This specimen was prepared using a hematoxylin-eosin-saffron (HES) stain. Magnification: x1100 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
