Caption: False-colour transmission electron micrograph of a 90% titanium 10% nickel alloy. This alloy has the lowest melting point of any titanium/nickel alloy (the eutectic mixture of Ti/Ni), and has a layered lattice (lamellar) structure. This alloy forms the basis of a diverse family of alloys, which may contain 3-6 other elements in small amounts. This family has a range of uses in aerospace, marine engineering and medicine. The type and quantity of additional elements added to the Ti/Ni alloy determines the end use. Magnification: x20,000 at 6x4.5 size.
