Cytosteatonecrosis on the leg of a 45-year-old woman, caused by a fall. This condition is the term used for fat cell death. Fat released from necrotic fat cells provokes the formation of fibrous cystic tissues, leading to lumps and the lesion seen here. Necrosis is abnormal cell death. Necrosis of fat cells is commonly due to trauma (as here), but it can also be due to surgery or radiotherapy.
