Caption: Leopard shark and remora. Leopard shark (Stegostoma fasciatum) on the sea bed with a remora (family Echeneidae, upper centre) attached to its back. Remoras use their mouths to suck onto the backs of larger fish, and use them as a means of transport (phoresy). This is a type of commesalist relationship, where the remora benefits but the shark neither gains nor loses anything. Photographed in the Red Sea, Egypt.
