Caption: Button mangrove (Conocarpus erectus) in fruit. Mangroves are tropical and subtropical plants that grow in saline coastal habitats. The seeds of mangrove fruits, unlike those of most other plants, germinate while still on the tree. The resulting structure drops off the tree and floats to a new location before taking root. Photographed in the Galapagos Islands.
