CloudSat satellite. Computer artwork of NASA's CloudSat satellite orbiting Earth. This satellite contains a very sensitive radar system for studying the structure and composition of clouds. It is also analysing how clouds affect solar energy distribution in the atmosphere. This information will help scientists better understand weather patterns and the global water cycle, and develop better climate prediction tools. CloudSat was launched on 28 April 2006, together with the CALIPSO satellite, which is studying the distribution of clouds and aerosols.
