First image of the Horsehead Nebula. B2312 capturing the Horsehead Nebula (centre) for the first time. The nebula is approximately 1500 light years from Earth in the constellation Orion. Orion's belt is at right. The nebula was discovered by Williamina Fleming, one of the Harvard Observatory's female computers. The image was taken on 7th February 1888, from Harvard College Observatory, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA, with the 8-inch Bache Doublet, Voigtlander, reworked by Clark. The exposure was 90 minutes.
