Caption: Elaine Zworykin (1926-2011), American mineralogist, being trained to operate an electron microscope. Zworykin was working for the U.S. Geological Survey at the time after graduating in geology from the University of Illinois. Her father Vladimir Zworykin, had played an important role in the development of the electron microscope. Photographed at the RCA Laboratories, Princeton, New Jersey, USA, in 1949.
