Caption: Frances Densmore (1867-1957), American anthropologist. Densmore's speciality was ethnomusicology, recording the sounds and use of music in Native American culture in the early years of the 20th century. Over her career Densmore, a trained musician, made approximately 3500 recordings and transcribed 2500 songs. She worked with the Smithsonian Institution's Bureau of American Ethnology to document Native American culture.
