Caption: The Dome of the Rock. 1882 illustration of a the Dome of the Rock, Jerusalem, Palestine. This Islamic shrine was erected over 1500 years ago and is located on the Temple Mount in the Old City of Jerusalem. It is often erroneously called the Mosque of Omar, and is the best known building in Jerusalem. According to Jewish tradition, the huge rock in the centre of the building is the place where Abraham bound and attempted to sacrifice his son Isaac.
