Caption: Lillien Jane Martin (1851-1943), US psychologist. Martin taught high school science after graduating from Vassar College. She studied at the University of Gottingen in Germany from 1894 to 1898, and then became a professor of psychology at Stanford University from 1899 to 1916. She received an honorary doctorate from the University of Bonn in 1913. She went on become a consulting psychologist and psychopathologist, leading a mental hygiene clinic in San Francisco. Martin published over twelve books, including 'Salvaging Old Age' (1930) and 'Sweeping the Cobwebs' (1933).
