Caption: Margaret Eliza Maltby (1860-1944), US physicist and educator. Maltby was the first US woman allowed to take a degree at Gottingen University, which she did in 1895. Maltby later became professor of physics and department chair at Barnard College from 1903 to 1934. The American Association of University Women established a fellowship in 1926 in Maltby's honor.
