Caption: Margaret Reed Lewis (1881-1970), US cell biologist, physiologist and anatomist. Lewis was an authority on tumours, having worked as an assistant to Thomas Hunt Morgan at Columbia University. She then worked as a researcher in the embryology department of the Carnegie Institution of Washington from 1915 to 1946. In 1910, she had married fellow scientist Warren Harmon Lewis (1870-1964).
