Caption: Mary Lura Sherrill (1888-1968), US chemist. Sherrill was head of the department of chemistry at Mount Holyoke College. She was educated at Randolph-Macon College (graduating in 1909) and obtained her doctorate at the University of Chicago (1923). Her research included the synthesis of antimalarial compounds. She joined Mount Holyoke College in 1921, and taught there until 1954. In 1947, she received the Francis P. Garvan Medal from the American Chemical Society. Photographed in 1947.
