Caption: Pauline Gracia Beery Mack (1891-1974), US chemist and nutritionist. Mack obtained her doctorate from Pennsylvania State University in 1932, nearly 20 years after her first degree. She later became dean of the College of Household Arts and Sciences at Texas State College for Women in the early 1950s. Her skill at obtaining grants led to the creation of the largest research unit at a women's college at the time. She also worked with Science Service, an organisation dedicated to informing the public of the latest scientific discoveries and achievements.
