Caption: Crystallization of silver nitrate. Crystallization stage of an experiment to produce silver nitrate (AgNO3) by reacting silver metal and nitric acid. The reaction mixture had been heated to high temperatures and is now cooling down. As it cools, crystals of silver nitrate (white) form within the liquid. Here, a supersaturated solution had been produced, and some seed crystals had been used to trigger the crystallization process. Silver nitrate is a commonly used precursor in the production of a range of silver-containing chemicals.
