Caption: Refraction of light through a glass block. Light travels at different velocities in different media, and as it passes from one medium to another it bends (refracts). Here the ray is entering through the curved side of a semi-circular block. As it emerges from the flat side it is bent (refracted) away from the normal (right angle to the surface).
