Varicose veins, thermogram

Varicose veins. Varicose veins. Thermogram of the rear of the legs of a 56-year-old woman, showing varicose veins in the right leg (right). Varicose veins are lengthened and dilated veins that can develop just below the surface of the skin. They can occur for no apparent reason. Here the varicose veins appear hotter (red and yellow, on left side of right knee) than the rest of the leg. The colour-coded heat display here runs from purple and blue (coolest) through green and yellow, to red and white (hottest).
