Caption: Valeri Barsukov (1928-1992), Soviet geologist. Barsukov is best known for his work on the geology of the Moon and Venus. As Director of the Verndasky Institute of Geochemistry and Analytical Chemistry he established the Brown-Vernadsky agreement for collaboration between the institute and Brown University, USA. Despite the Cold War the collaboration shared discoveries in planetary science. Photographed in 1987.
