Caption: Alexander Monro (1773-1859), Scottish anatomist. The third of this name, Monro 'tertius' is considered less accomplished than his famous father and grandfather. He became Professor at the University of Edinburgh Medical School, firstly jointly with his father from 1797, and then by himself from 1808 until his retirement in 1846. He was elected a Fellow of the Royal Society of Edinburgh in 1798. He published 'Elements of Anatomy' (1825) in two volumes. This salted paper print has been produced from a calotype negative obtained by Hill and Adamson in Scotland, dating from the period 1843 to 1848.
