Caption: Jerome Friedman (born 1930), US physicist. Friedman is best known for his particle physics experiments with Henry Kendall and Richard Taylor at the Stanford Linear Accelerator Center, USA. This research provided the first experimental evidence that protons had an internal structure (later known to be quarks). This pioneering work earned Friedman, Kendall and Taylor the 1990 Nobel Prize in Physics. Friedman is an Institute Professor at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Photographed during an interview at CERN, the European particle physics laboratory, on 15 November 2011.
