Caption: Fish raised in an aquarium being returned to the sea. Initially upon return the fish are placed under large nets to acclimatise to the sea. The fish were collected from the Mediterranean Sea at the post-larval stage. Post-larvae have a mortality rate of 95 per cent, so capturing them at this stage allows more to survive and is a sustainable process. The fish are used to repopulate areas, such as harbours, that have seen a decrease in fish numbers. This technique is known as post-larval capture and culture (PCC).
