Caption: Computer graphics representation of the rutile crystal structure, adopted by such minerals as tin dioxide (SnO2) and titanium dioxide (TiO2). The crystal is viewed in the direction of the c axis, showing MO6 octahedra. The unit cell is highlighted at centre in white. The elongated, prismatic crystals of rutile sometimes occur as inclusions in other minerals; those found in quartz are known as "maiden hair".
