Trichomes (hair-like) are seen on the upper leaf surface, while a freeze-fracture has revealed the internal cellular structure (across bottom). Nettles have stinging trichomes (not seen) and non-stinging trichomes (these shorter ones). Magnification: x265 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
