Caption: Phragmipedium dalessandroi is a rare species of orchid only recently discovered in Ecuador. It is endemic to a limited mountainous region in southern Ecuador, at heights between 800 and 1300 m, where its distribution is declining under thread of human disturbance and biotope degradation. The specimen here presented (actual width 80 mm), was photographed in a hothouse at the Uithof Botanical Garden in Utrecht, NL.
