Caption: Soft tree fern (Dicksonia antarctica) growing at 500 metres above sea level in the Dandenong Ranges, Victoria, Australia. The plant is about 10m in height, and seen from below. It is growing beneath an open canopy of Mountain Ash (Eucalyptus regnans, shining foliage) about 50m tall. D. antarctica is a very common component of the understorey of cool temperate rainforest in Southeastern Australia. It is frost hardy, with fine elegant foliage; the fronds may reach 3-4m length.
