Caption: Cat flea head. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of a cat flea (Ctenocephalides felis). The flea's eyes (round pink structures) are seen at the sides of its head. The two antennae-like structures at the front of the head are sensory palps, and below this are the mandibles, which are used to pierce the host's skin and suck blood. Fleas usually only remain on the host whilst feeding.
