Caption: Allosaurus dinosaur with its prey. Illustration of the dinosaur Allosaurus fragilis, a carnivorous predator that reached a length of 8.5 metres. It lived during the late Jurassic period (150 to 155 million years ago) in what is now North America. It was the apex predator of its time. The prey dinosaur is Camptosaurus dispar (5 metres in length), a medium-sized herbivore and an example of an iguanodontian. It also dates from the Late Jurassic in what is now Utah and Colorado.
