Caption: Lice grooming, historical postcard. Nanny grooming a child's hair for lice. Lice are insect parasites, several species of which can infest human hosts. Common infestations include those by head lice, feeding on dead skin on the scalp and laying their eggs there. The meticulous process of removing the lice and their eggs was known as nitpicking, a term now used to describe any similarly meticulous behaviour. Photographed in Brittany, France.
