Caption: Pollen health food. Hundreds of lumps of pollen grains gathered by honey bees (Apis mellifera) from a variety of different flowering plants. Each lump consists of clumps of pollen grains, the reproductive structures produced by the male parts of flowering plants. Bees gather this pollen to feed their larvae, but here the pollen has been harvested to be consumed by humans as a health food, due to the concentrated nutrients it contains. Pollen is high in protein, and also contains valuable trace elements, such as minerals and vitamins.
