Caption: Talaiotic prehistoric site, Menorca. These stone houses are part of the prehistoric Talaiotic site of Talati de Dalt, near Mao on the Mediterranean island of Menorca, Spain. The Talaiotic culture arose on Mallorca and Menorca during the second millennium BC, ending in the first millennium BC with the rise of the Roman and Carthaginian empires. Excavations shows that these houses remained in use up to the 13th century AD. Photographed in 2009.
