Skin rash in dermatomyositis. Dermatomyositis on the hand of a 54-year-old male patient. Dermatomyositis is a chronic inflammatory disorder of the muscles and skin. Symptoms include blue/purple rashes over the skin and muscle weakness in the arms and legs. Treatment of the symptoms includes the use of corticosteroid drugs and physical therapy. The skin rashes are treated with antimalarial drugs and sun protection measures. The condition may be an autoimmune disorder.
