Caption: Operation Buster-Jangle atom bomb test, 1951. US armed forces personnel watching the mushroom cloud rising after the detonation of an atom bomb at the Nevada Test Site, USA, on 1 November 1951. Codenamed 'Dog', this 21-kiloton test also included the Desert Rock I exercise where military personnel observed the atmospheric nuclear test. This type of test, where people were allowed to view the explosion, was known as an 'open shot' test. Here, members of the 11th Airborne Division watch this test at Frenchman's Flat.
