Caption: Astrophytum asterias is a species of cactus belonging to the genus Astrophytum. It is native to limited parts of the deserts in Texas, USA and Mexico. Popular names of this widely prized species are sand dollar cactus, star cactus and peyote cactus. Astrophytum asterias nudum here seen is a variety of round and radially symmetrical form, the triangular segments of the main body dotted with small, woolly areoles. Actual diameter of this specimen is 70 mm.
