Caption: Light micrograph of a section through a computer printed circuit board (PCB) with wired tantalum electrolyte capacitor. A small part of a PCB was embedded in light curing resin and then ground and diamond polished. The image shows the basic epoxy material of the PCB with glass reinforcement filaments in linen weave in blue color with two copper layers of the multilayer at the bottom of the image. A tantalum electrolytic capacitor in cross section is visible on the upper side of the PCB, showing the interior composition of the capacitor. The main electric component is the dark grey, sintered block in the upper side of the housing. The intense yellow color comes from the plastic housing of the capacitor. Microscopic contrast technique: Incident brightfield combined with UV excitation fluorescence. Magnification: 25x when printed 10 centimetres wide.
