Caption: Springbuck (Antidorcas marsupialis) lambs, in a nursery herd, suckling on their mothers at dusk after the adults have returned from grazing. A single young springbuck is born after a 6 month gestation period and is usually weaned after 6 months. Females and their lambs often form a nursery herd, which moves behind the larger herd. In so doing the nursery herd benefits from the early warning capabilities of the more alert adults, without caretaking responsibilities and distractions, in the main herd. This gazelle-like antelope inhabits the open dry plains of southern Africa, feeding on grass, leaves and shoots. Filmed in the Auob riverbed of the Kgalagadi Transfrontier Park, southern Africa.
