Caption: Lassa virus glycoprotein. Illustration of the surface protein (lower left) that allows antibody-mediated cell recognition of the Lassa virus. The glycoprotein (GPC, green and pink) is the sole antigen expressed on the viral surface. It is the critical target for antibody-mediated neutralization. The viral surface is seen across top. Lassa virus is found in West Africa and is transmitted by rats. It causes fever, headache and severe muscular pain. It can be fatal.
