Caption: Rocky exoplanet Ross 128 b, illustration. Ross 128 b is the second-closest known rocky exoplanet, the closest being the planet orbiting Proxima Centauri. Ross 128 b orbits within the habitable zone of its red dwarf star Ross 128. Unlike the red dwarf Proxima Centauri, Ross 128 is considered relatively ‘quiet’. It lacks the former’s violent flaring activity. As such, astronomers believe Ross 128 b a good candidate for habitability. It is 35 percent more massive than Earth and receives 38 percent more starlight. This image imagines the planet to be covered in water.
