Caption: Yellow fever mosquito (Aedes aegypti) on human skin, coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM). The female mosquito feeds by using her modified proboscis to pierce her host's skin and feed on its blood. She uses the blood meal for the production of eggs. This species of mosquito is found throughout tropical Africa and in parts of South America. It is a vector for the transmission of yellow fever, chikungunya, dengue fever and zika viruses to humans.
