Caption: Bromeliad biotope specimen. Coloured scanning electron micrograph (SEM) of an unidentified pollen grain found in the water trapped by a bromeliad plant. These mainly tropical plants have evolved to trap water in their tightly furled leaf structures. This reservoir of water forms a unique ecosystem that supports a biotope of many species that have yet to be recognised. Magnification: x5300 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
