Dipetalogaster maxima bug, macrophotograph. This insect is classified as a kissing bug (subfamily: Triatominae). Feeding on blood, it originally fed on lizards, but now commonly feeds on humans and domestic animals as well. It is often infected with and can transmit the parasite causing Chagas disease. Magnification: x5 when printed at 10 centimetres across.
